The agronomic and economic value of honeybee effected pollination has been an internationally contentious issue since at least the turn of the century. As early as 1913 horticultural scientists were urging cherry growers in Oregon State of the USA to employ bees for pollination: “…There is little question… that many cherry orchards would be rendered much more productive if their owners would give proper recognition to the known facts regarding the importance of bees in the orchard.” (Oregon Agricultural College Experiment Station 1913).
