Dubai: At a meeting of the Higher Committee in charge of planning for the 28th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UNFCCC (COP28 UAE), held at Expo City Dubai, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of The Executive Council of Dubai was present.
According to Sheikh Hamdan, "We look forward to organizing the finest Cop edition that will have a lasting impact on global sustainability."
Sheikh Hamdan received an update on the COP28 Presidency's worldwide listening tour, as well as on the preparations and community engagement initiatives made in the run-up to the climate conference, from Dr. Sultan Al Jaber, COP28 President-Designate and Vice Chairman of the Upper Committee.
The debate at the prior Higher Committee meeting was expanded upon during the meeting, which was presided over by Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and Head of the UAE Higher Committee for COP28.
To link the efforts of all stakeholders in jointly producing concrete solutions spanning mitigation, adaptation, loss and damage, and climate finance, Al Jaber stated that the COP28 Presidency is actively interacting with and listening to all stakeholders on the first leg of its listening tour. "This is essential to COP28's vision for an open, transparent, and inclusive process that builds on prior climate progress, enhances the buy-in of diverse stakeholders, and advances game-changing outcomes, solutions, and partnerships towards achieving the goals of the Paris Agreement," the UN climate conference said.
The meeting also covered in-depth the logistical preparations that would ensure delegates and visitors have a seamless experience, from maximizing accessibility to providing chances for all groups to participate in discussions and activities.
