On Monday, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, were briefed on COP28 preparations. The conference will take place from November 30 to December 12 at Expo City Dubai.
According to Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed: "The UAE has been on a journey of transformational change since its inception. Sustainable development and climate action are critical components of our strategy for long-term economic and social growth for current and future generations."
He added that the UAE is committed to its role as a global convenor and will continue to promote the environmental and economic prosperity of societies around the world, both now and in the future, in keeping with the approach set by the UAE's Founding Father, the Late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.
He stated that COP28 should involve nationwide participation from all sectors of society, and he urged the Higher Committee to encourage stakeholders, ranging from government and the private sector to academia and civil society, to play an active role in the conference's preparations.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid reaffirmed the UAE's approach to climate action, emphasising the importance of creating innovative and viable opportunities for shared prosperity and long-term development.
At COP28 UAE, he emphasised the critical need to unite the world, welcoming participants from all over the world to continue implementing the UAE's message of "Connecting Minds, Creating the Future."
Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and Chairman of the COP28 Higher Committee, reiterated that the UAE, as a nation at the world's crossroads, is uniquely positioned to build bridges between the Global North and the Global South. He also stated that the UAE can contribute to tangible progress towards a climate-secure world with opportunities for long-term socioeconomic development.
Dr Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology and COP28 President-Designate, also provided a summary of the 'Road to COP28,' the first COP28 Presidency-hosted event.
According to Sheikh Mohamed, sustainable development and climate action are critical components of the UAE's strategy for long-term economic and social growth.
The event, held on March 15 at Expo City Dubai, increased youth engagement and united the wider community in the run-up to COP28 by raising climate change awareness and mobilising all sectors of society.
