Dubai, UAE – Aug 1, 2022 – World Humanitarian Day is marked on August 19 annually to honor all humanitarians who are going to extraordinary lengths to help women, men, and children worldwide. World Humanitarian Day commemorates the anniversary of the bombing of the United Nations headquarters in Iraq. About 22 people were killed in the incident. Sergio Vieira de Mello, the chief humanitarian, was also killed in the attack. As a result, the UN General Assembly formalized World Humanitarian Day to commemorate this day in 2019.
Every year, WHD centers focus on a theme, uniting partners from the philanthropic system to advocate for the prosperity, survival, and dignity of individuals impacted by emergencies and aid workers' wellbeing and security.
Many people have been growing up listening to the stories of fictional heroes. But, this World Humanitarian Day is the time to appreciate the real-life heroes and their continuous efforts.
The climate emergency is unleashing havoc worldwide at a scale that individuals on the forefront and in the humanitarian community cannot manage. There's simply no time to spare for the poor and suffering people — the people who have shared least to the worldwide climate emergency yet are hit the hardest— and many others are now losing their homes, livelihoods, and lives.
With most campaigns focused on reversing the harmful impacts of climate and saving the future of Mother Earth, World Humanitarian Day 2022, will shed light on the consequences of the climate emergency for the world's weakest individuals and guarantee that their voices are heard, and their requirements top the agenda at the UN Climate Change Conference (COP27) in November 2022.
