On Thursday, September 2, during the UN-COPUOS 64th Session, Moon Village Association (MVA) submitted a proposal to declare International Moon Day on July 20. To honor the anniversary of man's first landing on the Moon, the proclamation was approved on December 9, 2021, by the UN General Assembly.
On May 25 in 1969, John F. Kennedy, the then president of the United States, said that the Apollo space program would begin. This was the initiating step of NASA's work on a monitored lunar landing. He wanted an American to land on the Moon by the decade's end.
After five years of working hard on the Apollo mission, Apollo 11 landed on the Moon for the first time. In this historical incident, two men, namely Neil Armstrong and Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin, became the first humans to step onto the surface of the Moon.
After this, Americans were blessed to receive the whole first TV pictures of the Moon's surface. This was possible because those pictures were sent by Ranger 7, which was NASA's automated probe.
